Ombré Lettering with Tombow Blender

Tombow markers often come with the clear brush in the pack, but what do we do with that clear brush marker?

The blender marker is great for blending colors to create an ombré effect to your lettering! They basically act as a paintbrush that allows water to smooth out the edges of the colors meeting! Fun, right?

Let's dive in!

What you need:

Tombow markers (2 values of the same color)

Tombow blending marker

Bristol or marker paper

The first thing you want to do is letter your word with a light value. Here I have used a light pink. Remember if you are new to lettering, use thick strokes (apply more pressure) on the down strokes and light strokes (apply less pressure) on the up strokes.

Color the tops or the bottoms of each letter in your word with the darker value. Here I used the dark pink to color about halfway down each letter only on the thick strokes. If you choose to color the thick and thin strokes, your will love this effect as well!

Now use your blending maker, which is basically a paintbrush with water inside the barrel, to blend the two colors together.

The blending markers does lift up the pigment, so you may need to play with how much blending, but quality of paper is super important for this. Certain papers may develop a hole with use of the blending marker. I love to use bristol and marker paper for this!
